Our fourth guest Dr. Anna Kiss in our expert interview series is a research associate who brings a unique perspective to Pro-Sharp Research Center, combining bibliometric methodology with sustainability research. Her journey to Pro-Sharp stemmed from her fascination with synthesizing diverse methods to create reliable, applicable knowledge. What sets her apart is not only her expertise in evidence synthesis and scientometric analysis but also her commitment to ensuring research creates real-world impact.
What is your exact position at the Pro-Sharp Research Center, and how did you end up here?
I currently work as a research associate at the Pro-Sharp Research Center. I came to Pro-Sharp through my research area and previous professional experience, which are closely related to evidence synthesis and scientometric analysis. Early in my career, I was interested in how different methodologies could be combined to create new, reliable, and applicable knowledge. This led me to Pro-Sharp, where I can work with like-minded people.
What projects are you currently working on, and what do you like most about your daily work?
I am currently working on a large-scale bibliometric review on sustainable nutrition. This project combines the elements that motivate me the most: applying complex, innovative methodologies to topics that have direct social and scientific relevance. What I enjoy most about my daily work is the balance between the methodological challenge and the knowledge that the results can contribute to shaping a sustainable future.
What has been the most interesting project for you in this position so far, and why? What did you learn from it?
For me, the most exciting project so far is the development of software that supports the processing of scientific texts and the preparation of systematic literature reviews in the life sciences, currently in progress (this is HubScience Research Intelligence). This project not only provides an opportunity for methodological immersion but also allows us to translate research needs into practical tools. Through this, I am learning how digitization can be part of scientific work in a way that creates real added value, and how to bridge the gap between specific research methods and their everyday practical application.
If you weren't doing this work, what would you be doing? Do you have any hobbies or passions that help you unwind outside of work?
If I weren't working in academia, I would love to be involved in social work in Africa, particularly in the field of health education in schools and, more specifically, in promoting healthy eating. I have visited Africa several times and have always been impressed by the continent's diversity, natural beauty, and the strength of its communities. At the same time, I have witnessed firsthand the significant need for support and long-term sustainable programs that can help improve the health and future of the children and families living there. Pro-Sharp Hungary has previously supported the work of a health mission, and I am confident that there will be opportunities to participate in similar initiatives in the future. In my everyday life, reading and traveling are what recharge my batteries: reading gives me new ideas and perspectives, while traveling helps me step outside my comfort zone, learn about other cultures, and draw inspiration from them.
