Our seventh guest in our expert interview series is Dénes Bolvári, an IT system administrator whose journey to Pro-Sharp began with a high school friendship. When he mentioned to his former classmate - now Pro-Sharp's CEO - that he was looking for a change, the opportunity was immediate. Now in his fourth year at the company, Dénes manages everything from office server infrastructure and license management to cloud services, ensuring that the technology behind every project runs smoothly.
What is your exact position at Pro-Sharp, and how did you end up here? What projects are you currently working on and what do you like most about your daily work?
I started my fourth year at the company this year, and it's no secret that the CEO and I have known each other for a long time, as we were classmates in high school. When I mentioned in a conversation that I would like to change jobs, Ricardo immediately indicated that he was looking to expand the team. Let's say that I didn't think twice before saying yes to the offer. As an infrastructure operations employee, I have a wide range of diverse tasks. We have an office server infrastructure, my colleagues use a variety of devices, we use many software tools, each of which requires separate license management and last but not least, we are connected to several cloud service providers. Accordingly, it might be easier to list the projects I am not involved in, since infrastructure is necessary for everything, and its creation, expansion, and maintenance are ongoing tasks. My daily work includes both standard tasks and new ones. If I had to highlight one thing, it is the variety; a workday can never be called monotonous.
What technological challenge or project has been the most interesting for you in this position so far, and why? What did you learn from it?
It wasn't recently; it was a while ago, when we replaced the entire infrastructure under the main product with a newer version. It was time for a change, as the operating system, database manager, and all other services had changed with several major versions. There were things that I didn't think would work in the new environment without changes, and of course, there were a few surprising little things that took days to investigate. It was definitely instructive to test everything until we found a bug that no one had ever seen before. The next stage of this project is approaching, as the system will undergo a complete infrastructure transformation in the foreseeable future, and we will implement new technology. Like every company these days, we are increasingly using AI solutions, which raises several questions, including security issues. Before my very eyes, there have been "landslide" changes that we could not have imagined even 1-1.5 years ago. We had to think carefully about how to ensure that the AI tool would not accidentally access sensitive information while allowing us to make the best use of its functions
Last year, you received a TThe Infrastructure Emperor 2025 from Pro-Sharp. How did this process begin? Was there a specific problem you were looking to solve, or was it more driven by curiosity?
Nowadays, high availability is a universal expectation everywhere, so our partners expect it from us as well. What I want to highlight is that we completed all maintenance and commissioning tasks last year without any significant downtime. In addition, last year's organizational restructuring, which led me to take on more responsibility, was a factor in the award.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you be doing? Do you have any hobbies or passions that help you unwind outside of work?
I'm not the type of person who knew in kindergarten that this is what I would be doing one day. There was a time when I wasn't even thinking about a technical field, although I was always interested in IT, so whatever happened, it would certainly have had something to do with this field. Incidentally, I come from a family of economists, but there was never any expectation that I should necessarily continue my studies in economics. Recently, the role of nature in my life has become significantly more important. I was born and raised in the capital, but as a child, I spent a lot of time in the countryside, so nature is not a completely unknown world to me. After days spent indoors, it's refreshing to get out into nature. I really enjoy hiking, and luckily, my friends are into it too. I have also been skiing since childhood and it is very relaxing to go out to a high mountain for some fresh air and exercise after weeks or even months of urban greyness and confinement. This really recharges my batteries, but of course, it is only possible for a relatively short period of the year, so I make sure to include this week in my vacation plans well in advance.
