Our sixth guest in our expert interview series, Gergely Urbancsik is a Lead Software Developer who has been at the heart of Pro-Sharp's technical evolution for nearly 11 years. His journey began in the company's earliest days, working remotely before the first office even opened and he's witnessed the team grow from just three founding members to the thriving organization it is today.
What is your exact position at Pro-Sharp, and how did you get here? What projects are you currently working on, and what do you like most about your daily work?
I joined Pro-Sharp almost 11 years ago. At the beginning of my career, I worked remotely, and then a few months later, our first official office opened. At the beginning, there were only three of us in the team: Ricardo, Gyula and me, but since then, the number of employees has been growing steadily. I am currently working on the EPR project, which presents several complex challenges. In my work, I encounter new technologies every day, and since we use a microservice architecture, the most significant professional challenge is ensuring data consistency across services. This requires constant attention and it is also gratifying because it allows me to learn new things almost every day.
What technological challenge or project has been the most interesting for you in this position so far, and why? What did you learn from it?
I spent about 8-9 years on the GDSN project, which is significantly different from my current project in terms of technology: here we work with legacy technologies and a monolithic system. In this project, performance optimization tasks were particularly challenging and enjoyable for me, whether they involved SQL or code-level development. These tasks required in-depth knowledge of both the codebase and SQL Server operations. Together with the team, we achieved significant performance improvements.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you be doing? Do you have any hobbies or passions that help you unwind outside of work?
I completed my high school studies in the drama department, where I received training in acting. Theater and performing arts have continued to play an important role in my life, and I am a regular theater visitor. :) My hobby is gardening, especially lawn care, and I try to maintain the most beautiful and healthiest lawn possible. I like spending my free time in nature: I enjoy mountain climbing, skiing, and winter sports.
